Fantastic post from Eskil Steenberg today:
When I wrote my Modeling application Loq Airou, I quickly learned not to listen to suggestions from my users, because they could only critique what was already there, they could never imagine something different.Usually they just asked me to copy some existing tool. People know what they think of the things they have but they don’t know what they want beyond that. User surveys can help you understand what you have done but never what you should do, so if you are doing something new, surveys are ultimately not very useful.
The post goes on to discuss the difference between creatives and consumers in the world of art, architecture and economics. Fascinating. Link
